If you like or even have the slightest interest in Japan or samurai, you must read this book! If you're NOT into Japan or samurai, READ THIS BOOK!!! Not only is the plot line riveting, but the characters are engaging, the scenes captivating, and the action.well, let's just say if this were made into a movie, it would probably resemble something like a mix of Kill Bill, Saving Private Ryan, and Lord of the Rings. If it weren't for college, I'd never would have put it down! And even then it was hard.(Study? Book? Study? Book.? ARGH!!!) Eiji Yoshikawa threads a wonderful line that will keep you engaged from beginning to end. Musashi is a wonderfully written historical fiction novel that tells the story of Miyamoto Musashi, the same samurai who wrote The Book of Five Rings. So when I discovered a novel centering around the historic exploits of one of Japan's most famous samurai, I naturally had to buy it. It's a personal hobby of mine to learn about the culture, history, and language of the Japanese people. If you have the opportunity to buy this book I highly recommend it! As you read the book and drift along with him you will find yourself laughing with him and crying with him.

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat with a roll er coaster ride of emotions you will find it hard to put down. Musashi’s story is not just about the life of a swordsman but also a life of honor and code, mentor and disciple relationships, love, betrayal and yes even humor. I found this a challenging book to read trying to pronounce all the Japanese names and places mentioned throughout this story, but do not let this stop you from reading it, it is well worth the effort…and the price tag!įilled with history and culture this book has something for everyone, but readers be warned there is a lot of blood and guts in this story so if you have a weak stomach watch out. A swordsman onto himself challenging anyone who stands in his way of becoming the best. Musashi is a story of a rogue samurai finding his place in early Japan.
